We would like to introduce you to the animals behind ACRES
When trying to come up with the name for the Clinic, we brainstormed on having it mean something to us. We came up with the idea of using as many pets as possible that have impacted our journey to start this clinic. Some showed up, some were rescued, some adopted, some bought, some saved, and given a second chance. All have contributed to the vision we have for ACRES Veterinary Clinic
A is for Athena
Athena was an owner surrender in June of 2024 due to no fault of her own. A serious infection in her foot caused her previous owners to make a tough decision to surrender her in hopes Dr. Martin could end her suffering. One year and a leg amputation later, Athena is thriving. She adapted very well to life as a tripod and enjoys being a guard dog and babysitter for the Martin Family.
C is for Carlisle
Carlisle was a very scared and timid cat who thrived with affection and patience from Dr. Martin’s wife. He was adopted from a veterinary clinic when the Martins were in college and went everywhere with them. Under unlikely circumstances, Carlisle and Chappy became best friends. Together, they helped shape the veterinarian that Dr. Martin is today.
R is for Rufio
Rufio is the one-eyed wonder of the Martin pack. A very sick shelter kitten came into Dr. Martin’s life when he was a technician 12 years ago and created a very special place in his heart. Rufio has lived an unhindered life since 4 months old with one eye. He is a testament to the adaptability our pets possess.
S is for Sister
We lovingly refer to Sister as “Ranger’s pet cat”. Ranger found her when she was a kitten and decided that she would join the family. Dr. Martin can call her up with a whistle like a dog. She is one of two outside cats on Martin Farm. She has moved from Alabama to Tennessee with the Martins and is the best mouser around.
C is for Chappy
If you are lucky, you have a once-in-a-lifetime pet, or “Heart-dog,” who changes you for the better. They are a part of major life changes and help shape the person you are today. Chappy was that pet for Dr. Martin and his wife. He was adopted in 2010 and became a permanent fixture for the next 13 years, seeing both his parents graduate from college, get married, and start their family. Over the years, Chappy played a major part in many veterinarians and technicians. He was the perfect patient and the best companion, whose legacy lives on through Acres Veterinary Clinic.
R is for Ranger
Ranger was intercepted by the Martins on his way to the shelter. At 8 months old, he was strong-willed, and listening was a foreign concept. With a firm hand and a warm heart, Ranger has thrived and become the best livestock guardian and tracker, babysitter, cat lover, and frisbee fiend. At 11 years of age, he still acts like a puppy.
E is for Elam
This beautiful Great Pyrenees has come a long way. He was a stray who wandered onto the Martin property at 4 months old and 24 pounds. Very skinny, scared, and dirty, he has won the hearts of the Martin Family. He is small in stature due to a heart condition, and his stubbornness always keeps them on their toes.
S is for Sparkie
Sparkie was Dr. Martin’s childhood rat terrier who made an amazing impact in her 18 years. Like a cat with 9 lives, she lived through a venomous snake bite, being impaled on a metal stud, and playing “chicken” with an antlered buck in the backyard. This little dog was fearless and made a huge impact on how Dr. Martin practices medicine until the very end.
